Inventory of Development Trends of Automotive Engine Industry in 2009
February 18, 2023
After a hundred years of vicissitudes of the internal combustion engine industry, in 2009, we began a brand new journey. What are the things to remember in this year? Whose engine has caused widespread concern? Ben Wang hopes to use the form of keywords to review and summarize This year.
Emissions standard upgrade
Over the past year or so since the implementation of the National III Standard, the most obvious point in 2009 is that the National III engine has faded out of the major auto manufacturers promotion stage and replaced it with the National IV and the National V Machine. As at the beginning of the year, Shanghai Hino exhibited the National IV machine using EGR at BAAV. Yuchai exhibited the state V machine at the Beijing Bus Show. Shangchai also prepared the engine for the fourth national emission standard for the 2010 World Expo.
China is currently lagging behind many developed regions in emissions standards. In order to change this situation as soon as possible, some provinces and cities in China have announced that they will implement the fourth-generation "National IV" emission standard in advance. With the growing awareness of environmental protection among the Chinese people, the National IV standard will enter the full implementation stage nationwide from 2010 to 2011.
On November 1, 2009, Shanghai implemented the Phase IV emission standard of the national motor vehicle ahead of schedule. This is another step in the national energy conservation and emission reduction measures following Beijing's implementation of State IV emission standards on March 1, 2008. Weichai launched their Lanqingguo IV machine in a timely manner. Dongfeng Cummins has also entered the bus market with a number of national IV machines. President Cummins also said that he has already prepared for entry into the National IV and National V era. For many engine companies, the implementation process of the National IV emission regulations has been gradually tightened, as if it were a game of ball promotion. Behind this competition is the competition and re-division of engine companies by the market.
Strong alliance
In 2009, the joint venture projects of engine manufacturers appeared to be particularly large. The news of joint ventures and production of international component giants and domestic companies was not unheard of. The cooperation of domestic engine manufacturers was also very noticeable.
On June 9, 2009, Beijing Futian Cummins Engine Co., Ltd., a peer-to-peer joint venture invested by Cummins Inc. and Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. at a ratio of 50:50, was officially completed and put into production in Beijing Changping. The total investment of the Foton Cummins project is 2.7 billion yuan, and the annual production capacity of the light-duty diesel engine is up to 400,000. It is the first Sino-foreign joint venture owned by Foton Motor and the largest light engine production base of Cummins in China.
Cummins ’s defeat in the North American market made Caterpillar unrelenting in the Chinese market. It has established joint ventures with domestic giants Weichai and Yuchai , both of which are major engine companies. Both will be engaged in engine and component remanufacturing services. In the domestic market, Weichai and Yangchai, as well as Yaxing, have established cooperation intentions and established a competitive advantage in the Yangtze River Delta region.
New Energy Vehicle Engine
The "Automobile Industry Adjustment and Revitalization Plan" (hereinafter referred to as the "Planning") proposes to focus on supporting vehicles with direct injection gasoline engines with a displacement less than 1.5L and meeting the national IV emission standards, and diesel engines with a displacement of less than 3L and a power up to 45kW or more. Development; focus on supporting the development of high-power diesel engines and their high-pressure fuel injection electronic control systems and post-processing systems; they must master the relevant technologies for new energy vehicles .
Although auto manufacturers are currently propagating their own different new energy engine technologies, in fact, the technical classification and development direction of new energy engines have their own rules. On this road, many technologies have achieved certain results. In July 2009, Weichai Power invested 150 million yuan to establish a new energy engine company, and announced that it will develop and manufacture heavy-duty LNG vehicles with high-power, high-speed and high-speed direct injection technology that will lead the world in the future. The engine, with the ability to be fully fueled and capable of cruising more than 800 kilometers, is expected to become the world's largest new energy engine manufacturer in the next 3-5 years. As the largest passenger car engine manufacturer in the country, Yuchai is certainly not to be outdone. On December 21, 2009, Yuchai and Brunel University in the UK demonstrated the latest achievements of their cooperation in Yulin City – currently the world’s The first engine to use the existing components technology to achieve a renewable air hybrid function.
However, China has not made any astonishing move in the core technology platform of new energy vehicles . For example, in the engine electronic control, direct injection in the cylinder, electric auxiliary boost, electric valve, variable compression ratio and other technologies. This still requires our practitioners to continue their efforts.
