China Automotive Regulatory Authority: The road test of self-driving vehicles will be suspended

After Tesla’s murder, many countries began to pay attention to the issue of automatic driving safety. They also paid more attention to the auto-driving cars. Just after Japan established a global standard for automated driving with the European Union, China has also begun to formulate regulations for automated driving tests. Recently, the regulator of the Chinese automobile industry stated that it is formulating laws and regulations governing the testing of autonomous vehicles, and reminded car companies that they should not test autonomous vehicles on highways before regulations are issued.

Tests in China require car companies to consider different traffic conditions, driving habits, and signals, so that many auto-driving cars that want to test in China are prudent. The suspension of this high-speed test or the plan to launch a self-driving car will face difficulties in China for some time.

In April of this year, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. equipped with sensors and radars, completed 1,200 miles of test miles for self-driving cars. Baidu also launched the research and development of autonomous driving technology, and cooperated with BMW to develop the unmanned vehicle. The company and Zhejiang Geely Holding Co. asked the government to speed up the development of autonomous driving technology regulations in March.

As we all know, letting a self-driving car hit the road without setting safety standards increases the risk of driving. Therefore, while governments at the same time encourage self-driving R&D, they also face pressure from all walks of life.

For auto companies committed to the development of autonomous driving, marketing in China will be frustrated. But once the regulation is formulated, autopilot will become more secure, and this is the result we all expect.
