Toshiba Corporation has announced the TB9080FG, a three-phase brushless motor pre-driver integrated circuit for general automotive applications, that allows the motor to operate with low noise and high efficiency through sine wave drive and advance angle control1. The product is scheduled to put into mass production in September this year.
For vehicles equipped with an idling reduction system, the engine noise of the vehicle disappears when the system is activated, while the noise of the car air conditioner is more audible. Despite the urgent need in the market for a method of reducing air conditioning noise, mechanical solutions such as optimizing the main source of noise - the blade shape of the blower fan and the noise reduction material in air ducts fail to achieve low noise goals.
The TB9080FG replaces 120 degree square wave control with sine wave control, which electronically reduces the noise of the blower fan motor. Optimized advance angle control also helps improve motor operation.
