Novelis Joins Hands with Henkel to Develop Automotive Aluminum Bonding Technology

Recently, Novelis and Henkel of Germany announced that they have signed a long-term cooperation agreement and will jointly develop adhesive technology for automobiles using aluminum bodies.

The first product after the cooperation between the two parties is Bonderite M-NT 8453. This pretreatment technology can make the automotive aluminum parts have stronger adhesion and make the coating adhere better to the aluminum materials. This pretreatment is tested. The current accepted standard in this area is the "Alcoa 951" (Alcoa 951) introduced by Alcoa.

Bonderite M-NT 8453 will be manufactured by Henkel Adhesive Technologies in Warren, Michigan, USA. Jack Clark, senior executive vice president of Novelis, said that the goal of both companies is to develop a solution that will be widely accepted by the aluminum suppliers. In the future, it will allow suppliers to use the technology for free.

The aluminum body model Jaguar XE compact sedan has already been put into production in the UK and will first be available in Europe next month and will enter the United States next year. In addition Cadillac CT6 will also use aluminum body this year.
