These seven major tasks include building a world-renowned car brand, breaking through the intelligent network of new energy vehicles, insisting on innovative development and sharing, building an international industrial center, achieving breakthroughs in key core components, building a benign eco-environment for the post-market, and improving the industrial layout.

Guangzhou will also formulate the "13th Five-Year Plan" of the Guangzhou Auto Parts Industry Base with high standards and high starting points, and introduce and implement the "Guangzhou International Auto Parts Industrial Base Construction Implementation Plan" in accordance with the "153" strategy, namely "a base , five parks and three key points, according to the principle of differentiated development, build new industrial parks in Panyu, Zengcheng, Huadu, Nansha and Conghua based on existing industries.

The five parks will increase the planned land use area by 40 square kilometers, and will provide strong support in the areas of finance, land use, core technology research and development, public service platform construction, talent introduction, etc., establish the Guangzhou Automobile Industry Innovation and Development Fund, and focus on supporting self-owned brand automobiles. In 2017, Guangzhou Automobile's total sales volume reached 510,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 34.6%.

In the field of new energy vehicles, Guangzhou currently owns four brands of new energy vehicles, namely Guangzhou Automobile Transmission Co., Dongfeng Nissan Chenfeng, GAC BYD and BAIC. In 2017, the city's new energy vehicle production was about 8,000 vehicles, an increase of approximately 64% year-on-year. In 2017, new Guangzhou Automobile New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Qichen Automobile Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Baoneng Automobile Co., Ltd. were newly established in Guangzhou.

Among them, Guangqi Zhilian New Energy Automobile Industrial Park was started in GAC's Panyu Automobile City with a total investment of over 45 billion yuan, forming 400,000 new energy smart gridlink vehicles and its supporting scale. Baoneng Group started construction of a new energy automobile industrial park in the Guangzhou Development Zone. The project has a total investment of 30 billion yuan. The first phase plans to produce 500,000 new energy vehicles and related supporting projects.

In the field of smart vehicles, Guangzhou Automobile Research Institute completed the independent development of the remote control system for Telematics (on-board computer system using wireless communication technology) as the core technology, becoming the earliest auto company that has realized the independent development and commercial application of this technology, and it has passed on to Guangzhou Automobile. All models are popularized and applied.

On April 25, 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the provincial government signed the “Framework Agreement of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Government of Guangdong Province” to support the creation of a national-level broadband-based Internet smart car and smart transportation demonstration area in Guangzhou. Accelerate the promotion of the declaration and creation of demonstration zones, focus on promoting the industrialization of intelligent grid-linked vehicles and automotive electronics, fully integrate research and development capabilities of vehicle manufacturers, automotive electronics, Internet companies, and partners across the province and build a multi-functional integrated industrial chain. At present, GAC Toyota's expansion capacity of 220,000 vehicles has been completed and was officially put into production in January 2018. The second phase of Guangzhou Automobile's Honda's third plant production capacity and the 200,000 production capacity of GAC Smart New Energy Automotive are progressing smoothly. At the same time, Guangzhou Automobile Passenger Car is promoting the construction of production capacity for Hangzhou Base, Xinjiang Base, and Yichang Base.
