Cummins Engine Leads Beijing Automotive Industry to Make Great Steps

After China is ambitiously advancing toward the world's largest producer of green cars, the Beijing auto industry has finally begun to seek a matching position. Today, the production ceremony of 400,000 sets of engines for the Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. that was laid out for several years was officially held. The Beijing auto industry has finally taken a milestone step towards the international market.

At the launching ceremony, Wu Shixiong, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, and deputy mayor of Beijing, Mr. Lou Zhongwen and other guests jointly unveiled the first 3.8-liter engine. This not only means that this newly established diesel joint venture called "the world's largest diesel joint venture in the last 30 years" has begun to transform into a strong product competitiveness. More importantly, with 400,000 units of Foton Cummins' 2.8-litre and 3.8-litre light diesel engines were put into operation. Together with the existing 200,000-capacity Aubell engine project and the 300,000-capacity direct-injection gasoline engine under planning, Foton Motors had built its annual production capacity in Beijing. The goal of one million of the world’s largest engine production bases is getting closer.

At the launching ceremony, Foton Motor also signed the European V Product Technology Licensing Contract with Cummins Inc., and signed a memorandum of cooperation on the development of products with emission standards above Euro V. The signing of these cooperation agreements signified that Foton Motor has already completed its technical reserves for Euro V and Euro VI emission standards in order to meet future development needs, especially the demands of the international market.

"It's time for Beijing autos to use force," said an industry expert. In fact, since the beginning of this year, China has become the only car market in the world that maintains strong growth, and after demonstrating its ambition to enter the world's largest producer of green cars, Beijing Automotive has become one of the most eye-catching highlights. From January to May of 2009, Foton Motors cumulatively produced and sold 235,000 vehicles, an increase of 8% year-on-year, ranking first in China's commercial vehicle industry.

The construction of a million-engine base will continue to consolidate the status of the world's second-largest commercial vehicle in Futian, and will become a strong support for the development of Beijing New Energy Vehicle Design and Manufacturing Industry Base.
