Xu Binshi: Automotive parts remanufacturing is the easiest to popularize

--- Academician Xu Binshi Discusses China's Remanufacturing Development and Remanufacturing of Auto Parts
The tank wear parts he remanufactured with remanufacturing technology not only doubled their life span, but also cost only 1/8 of the new product; he was commissioned by Liszt Petter, the largest remanufactured company in the UK, to fix that the British could not repair Land Rover car engine block. He is the founder of China's remanufacturing project -- Xu Binshi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Academician Xu Binshi received an exclusive interview with this reporter at the Second National Academic Conference on Equipment Remanufacturing Engineering and the First Youth Remanufacturing Engineering Academic Forum, and talked with reporters about the development of China's remanufacturing industry and the prospects for the remanufacturing of auto parts and components. .
The story of 3 tanks
Talking about China's remanufacturing industry, we must mention the story of Xu Binshi and three tanks.
In the 1960s, some of China's key tanks that were imported from the former Soviet Union and went to 4,000 kilometers were broken. These are mostly thin-walled parts. Former Soviet Union experts pointed out that such parts can't be repaired after being worn out, and they can only be scrapped.
Xu Binshi, who was still an instructor at the Harbin Institute of Military Engineering, tried to repair it by welding. "The result is really not good. The wall of the part is too thin. A weld is deformed." Xu Binshi recalled.
By the late 1970s, plasma spray technology had emerged. Xu Binshi experimented with plasma spraying technology to "re-manufacture" worn tank parts. He was surprised to find that the treated parts were not only more wear-resistant than the original, but also twice as long and only one-eighth the cost of new parts.
In order to verify the practicality of this technology, Xu Binshi applied to the Military Armored Corps leadership to apply for three tanks for testing.
Academician Xu told the reporter about the trial process: “We put a new piece of a tank, another tank was loaded with remanufactured parts, and two tanks ran together. As a result, the new tank was driven for 4,000 kilometers. The part was broken, and the tank containing the remanufactured parts was still good.We replaced the bad tank with a new one, and the two tanks ran again for 4,000 kilometers together. The new tank was broken again, and the remanufactured tank was remanufactured. Parts of the tank can still be used until the third new part is replaced with a tank, and remanufactured parts are still in use."
This time, Xu Binshi's remanufacturing technology has been widely recognized. Academician Xu said: "This test proves that remanufactured products can not only achieve new performance but also exceed the performance of new parts."
For remanufacturing, Academician Xu particularly stressed the role of "high-tech" repair. “A product starts from the development and design, and needs to be remanufactured after it is scrapped. This period of time is at least 10 years. In the 10 years, with the development of the level of science and technology, new technologies will certainly emerge. Products that can be remanufactured using new technologies can be To make up for the weakest link in the original product, the quality of the remanufactured product may exceed that of the new product. Remanufacturing is not a used product but a new product, he explained.
From imported technology to export technology
In the re-manufacturing definition of Academician Xu, special emphasis is placed on "industrialization." In 1994, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group and the UK's largest specialized engine remanufacturing company, Liszt, jointly established Jinan Fuqiang Power Co., Ltd., specializing in engine remanufacturing. Academician Xu and Fu Qiang have always maintained close contact.
He explained that Fuqiang Company began to use remanufacturing technology imported from Liszt Petter, the United Kingdom, mainly using dimensional repair methods. The Chinese independent remanufacturing technology that Xu Binshi presides over is the integration of advanced surface engineering technology into remanufacturing technology to transform old and new products.
Recently, Land Rover UK encountered a problem. The engine block of Land Rover's car is made of aluminum alloy and its construction is quite special. The existing British technology is difficult to complete the remanufacturing of this block.
The British Land Rover Company heard that Academician Xu had new remanufacturing technology here and he consulted him with a scrapped cylinder. As a result, the working group led by Academician Xu passed the trial and research of various programs and completed the remanufacturing of Land Rover's engine block with the technology independently developed by China. After Land Rover's people took the samples back to do rig tests and loading trials, they told Xu Academician with conviction: "You succeeded."
The success of Xu’s academician and his team led to the international recognition of Chinese remanufacturing technology. Recently, the British Liszt Petter company has decided to set up a remanufacturing technology production laboratory together with China to introduce advanced Chinese remanufacturing technology.
Academician Xu said: "From the introduction of British technology to the sale of advanced technology to the United Kingdom, the facts prove the level of development of China's remanufacturing technology and its position in the world."
