In an exclusive interview with reporters, Fu Xiu, general manager of Gifford Power Technology (China) Co., Ltd., said that in order to test whether a gearbox is competent, the average length of test time required is 24,000 hours. There are so many different types of gearboxes on the Chinese market. It is expected that the type of gearbox and the different combinations will be further doubled in the next four years. Transmission suppliers or vehicle manufacturers will announce the working life of different gearboxes. The demand for testing services in the transmission market is strong.

“We think that the demand in the Chinese market will further exceed the test capability of the existing test benches. Therefore, we decided to further increase our investment in the China R&D center.” Fu Xiuzai said that the next step will be to add 20 test benches, and finally Achieve 31. The tendering of the new plant and technical building is currently under way. It is planned to start building the factory in August.

The growing demand for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles is now very fast. Testing of electric vehicle gearboxes has also become an important sector. It is understood that the testing of electric vehicle gearboxes has different development directions. On the one hand, there are two gearboxes, and there are also types of extended cruising range. The so-called extended cruising range gearbox is to increase the cruising range by generating an engine, and its gearbox is used in combination with another relatively expensive gearbox. Currently, in addition to planetary gear solutions, the industry has a dual clutch solution.

Fu Xiuqi said that the equipment capacity of the company's current plan is also tilting in this direction, especially in the hybrid. There are many ways and a variety of needs for mixing. It has strict requirements on fuel consumption and emissions, which means that it is difficult and bottleneck to implement this process on the basis of traditional technologies. "The most effective method must be found, and hybrid power will naturally come to the front of the market."

“The process of economies of scale in the production of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles is still a long way to go, but in the next 10 years, the role of solving the problem of automobile emissions and fuel consumption is very obvious.
