There are many ways to eliminate excess production capacity, such as the elimination of equipment. In the adjustment period of the 1960s and the 1970s, Japan adopted measures to purchase equipment from the government and then discard it in order to encourage companies to eliminate redundant equipment, and in the textile, metallurgy, and shipbuilding industries.
