Fuel cell technology has gradually matured, but there are only a few choices as raw materials. Most of them are based on old methods, using hydrogen as raw material. Utah State University has proposed a new option. Researchers use JP-8 (this is the fighter fuel used by the US military in harsh environments) as a raw material for fuel cells. It uses enzymes to convert propellants into electricity. It does not require a lot of heat or fuel that requires complete cleaning; even if kerosene is doped with sulphide, it can still be used at room temperature, which is more advanced than the previous method of using JP-8.
This technology can be applied to any mobile device, such as a car. But its location does not have to be the same as hydrogen batteries. Because many auto manufacturers develop hydrogen batteries for the purpose of avoiding the use of petroleum products as fuel; this kind of technology that also uses kerosene as fuel may not be able to help too much. If scientists can optimize the battery, civilian fuel cells can also benefit from the advantages of JP-8, such as the production of notebook batteries for extreme temperatures. So one day, don't be too surprised that the battery of your hand is the same material as the fuel used on the fighter jet.
